Mike O'Hearn, president of Cotoytes IceMike O'Hearn enters his seventh year as president of Coyotes Ice, LLC, and the Alltel Ice Den. The Ice Den, although built to accommodate the training needs of the National Hockey League’s Phoenix Coyotes, quickly has become a community gathering place for a great majority of the Valley’s families. The Ice Den experiences over 700,000 visits per year through regular programming and special events.

While the Coyotes continue to be a major focus of the Ice Den, the public aspects of the business — youth hockey, adult hockey, figure skating — have in their own right witnessed unprecedented growth under his direction.

The Ice Den currently has an amateur hockey association with more than 600 members ages 5-16, a nationally renowned figure skating association (complete with a learn-to-skate program) with more than 750 skaters ages 3-60 and an amateur adult hockey association with nearly 600 members ages 18-60.

The need to provide the Valley with a center for the country’s fastest-growing participant sport has been addressed. In only four years of operation, the Alltel Ice Den quickly has established itself as the benchmark by which all other ice facilities are measured.

O’Hearn long has been involved with professional sports. A 15-year member of NHL management, he was vice president of hockey operations/facilities for the Coyotes before being named to his current post. In 1996, Mike was instrumental in the transition of the franchise from its roots in Winnipeg. He also spent six years with the Hamilton Tiger Cats of the Canadian Football League.
