SQUIRT 2001'S WIN PEEWEE CACTUS CUP

2001s

The Jr. Coyotes Squirt 2001 AAA team had a huge weekend here local, winning the PW division of the Cactus Cup. Matt Peterson led the tournament in scoring with 4G & 9A and Trevor Griebel tallied 9 goals in 5 games (including a final game hat trick!). Both Jr Coyotes goaltenders played well finishing one-two in save percentage. The team went 3-1 in the round robin including games against two Colorado favorites (Arapahoe Warriors W 2-1 and the Foothills Flyers L 4-2) prior to defeating Foothills in the tournament final. The entire organization congratulates Coach Jason Wright and the entire SQ 2001 AAA team.

2004's STORM THROUGH FLAGSTAFF

2004s

After winning the Coyote Cup in December the team headed to Flagstaff for the King of The Mountain Tournament. They played Flagstaff, Union, and Mission in round robin. They won all three games. They played Flagstaff in the semi final game and the Las Vegas Wranglers in the Final. The team scored two quick goals in the first 2 minutes and never gave up the lead. The final score was 7-4. Aiden Rettke was unstoppable in the net all weekend. Brett Strick, Caden Butler, and Cutter Gauthier played extremely well. All four players won an All Star Vote for the weekend.

CONGRATS 2004'S!

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA – Mike De Angelis, Director of Travel Hockey at the Ice Den in Scottsdale, announced today that ten players from the Jr. Coyotes youth hockey program have been selected by junior teams this spring. This list includes players for the United States Hockey League (USHL), Western Hockey League (WHL), and British Columbia Hockey League.  The USHL and the WHL represent the top tier of Junior Hockey in North America, showcasing the skills of players up to 20 years of age.  Many NHL players started their careers on USHL and WHL teams.

Six players were drafted by USHL teams, including Eddie McGovern (Sioux Falls Stampede), Drew Newmeyer (Indiana Ice), Max Miller (Waterloo Blackhawks), Cody Gylling (Indiana Ice), Ryan Francis (Dubuque Fighting Saints), and Max Vallis (Omaha Lancers, via Merritt of BCHL).

Two players were drafted by WHL teams in the Bantam Draft that includes Jeremy Briscoe (Tri City Americans) and Johnny Walker (Kelowna Rockets).  In addition, two players were recently signed by junior teams, including Nick Pappas, by the Victoria Grizzlies of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) and Brendan Burke, by the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL.

“The entire association has had an incredible season, from Mites to Midgets, and the USHL draft on Monday just solidified our progress,” said De Angelis. “Having a rising national hockey development program as well as an affiliation with the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes, has served our players well and the community as a whole. “What this year’s USHL draft has proven is that the Ice Den’s hockey programs have achieved a standard that places them as Arizona's leader in developing local talent while paving a clear path to junior, college and professional hockey.”

“On behalf of the entire Phoenix Coyotes organization, I would like to congratulate all of the Jr. Coyotes players who were selected in the recent USHL Draft,” said Coyotes Vice President and Assistant General Manager Brad Treliving. “This accomplishment is a testament to all the hard work and dedication by these players, their families and the incredible job that Mike DeAngelis and the entire Coyotes Amateur Hockey Association staff have done to develop these players and grow the sport of hockey in Arizona.”
