Phoenix Jr. Coyotes Travel Director, Mike De Angelis, is pleased to announce the head coaches for the 2012-2013 season.
Our Midget U18AA, U16AA, Bantam, PeeWee, Squirt and Mite team tryouts will commence on Friday, May 18th and conclude on Sunday, May 20th,2012. The Midget U18 and U16 Tier 1 Elite League teams will execute their tryouts in early June after the conclusion of the Athlete's Resource. Midget development camp at the Ice Den. Please check back to this page soon with exact dates and times of tryouts for the all the Phoenix Jr. Coyote teams..

Tyson Nash
Coach Nash played seven seasons in the NHL with St. Louis and Phoenix, recording 27-37-64 and 673 penalty minutes (PIM) in 374 games. He also appeared in 23 career playoff games. Nash was originally drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the 10th round (247th overall) of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut on April 3, 1999 with the St. Louis Blues. In 1999-00, Nash was a member of the Blues’ Presidents’ Trophy-winning club, which posted an NHL-best 51-20-11-1 record. Nash played for the Coyotes during the 2003-04 and 2005-06 seasons and was the recipient of the team’s Man of the Year Award in 2004 for his involvement in the Phoenix community. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Nash enjoyed a standout junior hockey career with the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League (WHL) where he was a teammate of Coyotes Captain Shane Doan. Nash and Doan helped lead Kamloops to back-to-back Memorial Cup Championships in 1994 and 1995. Nash and his wife, Kathy, reside in Scottsdale with their daughters, Madison and Georgia, and their son, Ty.
Ed Kastelic
Coach Ed Kastelic is new to the Jr. Coyotes1999 youth hockey program this coming season after just recently being involved with coaching his son, Mark.
Kastelic has a very impressive playing career in his back pocket, which included 220 NHL games for the Hartford Whalers and Washington Capitals. The 12 year pro started high level hockey in the famous OHL junior league in Ontario and was promptly drafted in the 6th round of the 1982 draft to the Washington Capitals. He moved up and down from the NHL and the AHL for numerous years, before reaching out overseas to Germany in 1997 to eventually finish his playing career. His best season was in 1986 where he scored a career high 17 goals for the Binghamton Whalers in the American Hockey League. Kastelic brings a wealth of experience to the Jr. Coyotes for next year, and plans on working closely with former 99 head coach, Brian Savage, with this talented group.
Nick Naumenko
Naumenko comes to the Jr. Coyotes as a highly regarded coach/player who has been involved in top level hockey such as, the U.S.H.L, N.C.A.A and professional hockey. Nick hails from Chicago, Illinois and played for the prestigious Chicago Young Americans youth hockey program growing up. He then moved on to the United States Hockey League where he was one of the top recruited players of his age group in 1990. In 1992, Naumenko was selected by the NHL's St. Louis Blues in the 8th round. After numerous college offers, Nick chose the University Of North Dakota where he starred for 4 years playing on the Fighting Sioux blueline. He still holds the all-time scoring record for the Fighting Sioux defensemen, and after his senior year promptly signed with the St. Louis Blues. Naumenko played pro for 14 years in numerous leagues, finishing his stellar career in Switzerland. This past season, Naumenko assisted the U16 AAA team until mid-season when he was promoted to the U18AAA head coaching position and helped the Coyotes to the U18 State Championship.
Sean McCosh
Former professional player Shawn McCosh will join the Jr. Coyotes coaching staff for the 2012-2013 season. McCosh was born in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada and played hockey all almost all levels while competing for over 20 years at a high level. He was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1989 NHL entry draft while playing for Niagara Falls in the O.H.L. and soon turned to pro. Shawn played in 100's of professional games in North American and Europe, but his highlights included briefly playing in the NHL for the L.A. King's and New York Rangers. He was consistently one of the top scorers in the AHL and averaged almost a point-a-game throughout his career. His youth hockey coaching journey start a few years ago when he got involved with leading his son Michael's teams here locally in Arizona. McCosh is excited to be coming the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes and is looking forward to continuing to develop the Coyotes top 2000 birth year team.
Mike DeAngelis

Mike was born January 27th, 1966 in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada and has a playing and coaching career that spans over 25 years in the hockey industry. This includes 14 seasons of professional hockey in U.S. minor pro, top European leagues, and coaching for the past 9 years after retiring from on ice competition. Mike has been fortunate enough to have recently helped in the development of some of the best young players our State has produced in the past few years. This list includes Zac Larazza (Denver- D1) and Henrik Samuelsson of the USA Hockey Development Program, plus Trevor Cheek of the Calgary Hitmen of the W.H.L. Other notable names that he has had the pleasure of coaching include Aaron Ave ( Princeton- D1), Ritchie Coyne, Max Vallis and Jordan Young in the U.S.H.L.
De Angelis is also part owner and on ice instructor for the Athlete's Resource company, which trains elite level hockey players year round. This program include numerous current N.H.L players who gather at the ice Den each summer for on ice conditioning. Mike currently sits on the Board of the prestigious SuperSeries AAA League and is a voting member for the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes in the national Tier 1 Elite League. His current role is Director of Travel Hockey for the Coyotes Amateur Hockey Association and has been instrumental in emergence of the Jr Coyotes youth hockey brand locally and nationally that last 8 years. Mike holds a degree in Mass Communications and a Minor in Psychology from the University of Minnesota- Duluth and citizenship in the US, Canada and Italy. He resides in Scottsdale with his wonderful wife Sonja and very active son Ryan.(6)

Coaching Career
Dennis brings close to 13 years of coaching experience to the Jr. Coyotes Midget Elite program. From his playing days as a youth travel and high school hockey player in Maine where he was named to the Class A All State team back in the 80’s; to his extensive officiating career that started with USA Hockey and progressed to the collegiate and professional levels including the ECAC, ECHL, AHL. Due to a career change back in 1998, Dennis relocated to Arizona where he traded in his stripes for an opportunity to work on the ice with young kids and immediately became involved with the CAHA program. His teams have won over 120 games in the past three seasons which have included several tournament championships, two State Championships, and finalist or semi-finalist appearances in the last three Rocky Mountain District tournaments. Dennis has also been involved with the State of Arizona Player Development Camp and many of his past players have progressed to the Regional camp. Dennis works in the insurance industry for Unum and lives in Scottsdale with his wife Stefani and their three children.
Ryan Bencurik
Originally from Chicago, Ryan has been working with the Lincoln Stars and the Tri-City Storm of the USHL as an assistant coach for more than 5 years. He originally moved to Lincoln to become the head coach of the Lincoln Junior Stars and after once successful year was promoted to first assistant with the USHL's Lincoln Stars. He worked alongside Steve Johnson (now Associate Head Coach of St. Cloud State). Ryan has recruited and trained players from all over the country and has seen his players have successful Division I and even NHL careers. Last year, Bencurik coached the U15AAA Jr. Coyotes and executed a strong development year for some of the 1996 birth year players.
As a player, Ryan received 2 full scholarships to prominent Division I school. He started his college career with the University of New Hampshire and later transferred to the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He helped UNO become a finalist in the CCHA during his senior year. Before playing for UNO he played for the Omaha Lancers, Des Moines Buccaneers and Lincoln Stars of the USHL. Most players would elated to win a Clark Club Championship while playing in the USHL, but Ryan is the only player in USHL history to win 3 Championships with 3 different teams. He was a 3 time All-Star defenseman and also won one Anderson Cup and a National Championship with Des Moines.
After finishing a brief pro career that stretched from New York to Wichita, he has dedicated his life to the development of hockey players of all ages.

Brian Savage
Brian Savage attended the University if Miami-Ohio for three seasons, leading the CCHA in goals with 37 in his final year, 1992-93. In his four years at Miami-Ohio Savage was the recipient of numerous awards including, CCHA First Team All-Star and NCAA West Second All-American Team. He played for the Canadian National Team for the next two years and represented Canada at the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer where he earned a silver medal. He was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft and saw his first action in the NHL in the 1993-94 season. After toiling with the club's AHL affiliate in Fredericton in 1993-94, Savage made the team and stayed with them for good the following year. The 1996-97 season saw Savage collect a career-high 37 assists and 60 points. Savage went on to play parts of ten seasons with the Canadiens before he was dealt to the Phoenix Coyotes midway through the 2001-02 season. Following a lock out year in 2004-05, Savage was acquired by the Philadelphia Flyers in the summer of 2005. Aside from his Olympic experience in 1994, Savage is a two-time member of Canada's World Championship team (1993 and 1999).
Steve Potvin
Coach Potvin is a veteran of 478 professional American Hockey League (AHL) and top European league contests. In his ten seasons in Europe, Potvin appeared in 354 games accumulating 133 goals, 184 assists and 800 penalty minutes (PIM).Prior to skating overseas, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound forward split time over five seasons between the AHL and ECHL. In 158 AHL appearances with the Baltimore Bandits, Portland Pirates, Albany River Rats and Hamilton Bulldogs, Potvin tallied 31 goals, 44 assists and 197 PIM. The 34-year-old averaged a point-per-game during his two seasons with the ECHL’s Raleigh Icecaps, netting 112 points (42g/70a) in 111 contests. Before turning pro, Potvin played four seasons of junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and had his best amateur season while with the Niagara Falls Thunder in 1994-95, picking up 89 points (32g/57a) in just 60 games.

Sean Gauthier
In June 1991 Coach Sean was drafted in the 9th round of the NHL entry draft by the Winnipeg Jets (team's 7th pick, 181st overall). In the 1991-92 season, Sean played for Fort Wayne of the IHL and Moncton of the AHL. In the 1994-95 season, Sean played for Fort Wayne and the Canadian National team. In the 1995-96 season, Sean played for the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL, where he won 31 games. In the 1996-97 season, Sean played for the Pensacola Ice Pilots, winning 23 games as the team's MVP. On July 22, 1998, Sean signed with the San Jose Sharks. He reported to training camp in September of '98, and was one of the last few to be sent to Kentucky of the AHL. Finally, on March 4th, Sean was recalled to the Sharks on an emergency basis, backing up Steve Shields while Mike Vernon nursed an injury. Sean had finally appeared in his first NHL game in a long storied pro career.
Keith Carney
Coach Carney was drafted 76th overall out of high school by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft, Carney starred at the University of Maine for three years during which time he made various All-Star teams for his fine play. He joined the Sabres in 1991 after spending much of the year with the U.S. National team, but he played only parts of three seasons with the organization before being traded to Chicago.With the Hawks, Carney matured and developed into a solid defenceman and during his four full seasons there he helped anchor a developing corps of talent. But the team never advanced very far, and late in the 1997-98 season he was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes. Just weeks earlier he had represented the USA at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. After four seasons in Phoenix, Carney was dealt to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in 2001-02 and was a valuable asset on the Ducks blueline, helping the club reach the Stanley Cup final in 2003 against the eventual Cup champions from New Jersey. Carney went on to play parts of four seasons with the Ducks before being acquired by the Vancouver Canucks at the 2006 NHL trading deadline. Carney played his 1000th NHL game during his 2 seasons with the Minnesota Wild which capped his fantastic career.

Jason Wright
Jason Wright will continue his strong coaching with the Jr. Coyotes 2001 program again in 2012-2013. Coach Wright started junior hockey in the USHL in 1989 and then received a hockey scholarship to Michigan Tech University soon after. While at Michigan Tech, Jason played four solid years at defense while captaining the Huskies his final season. That same year he was nominated for All-WCHA honors after putting up 9 goals and 22 assists. After his college career, Wright turned pro while competing in the ECHL and CHL for the Richmond Renegades and the Fayetteville Force, respectively. Coach Wright finished his playing career in 2000 playing overseas for the Belfast Giants on the British League.

Background
- Born in 1962 in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada – Mike started playing hockey in 1970 as a house league goaltender. Over the next 8 years Mike played every position and moved through to the top level of competition in the Metro-Toronto area to play his last three years of MTHL as a right winger with the Toronto Young Nationals – an organization that has over 50 players drafted to the NHL.
- After trying out for the OHA Major Jr. A Brantford Alexanders in 1980, Mike returned to Toronto to pursue a B.A.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto. In addition, Mike has a Masters degree in Business Administration from York University in Toronto.
- Now a dual citizen of the USA and Canada, Mike lives in Scottsdale with his wife Beth and children Sasha, Mykaela and Coleton. Both Mykaela and Coleton are playing within the CAHA Jr. Coyotes programs.
- Outside of hockey, Mike is the owner of Strategic Dynamics, a management consulting firm that provides Leadership Development, Business Strategy and Organization Design services to Fortune 500 firms across North America.
